Are you tired of being tired? You may find that you deal with daily fatigue even though you don’t remember waking up during the night. So, how can you possibly be suffering from exhaustion? Many patients visit us challenged by this same frustration and other common symptoms that point to sleep apnea. Unfortunately, if you are unfamiliar with this sleep disorder it is often hard to connect the dots for self-diagnosis. The good new is, however, that we are experts in identifying these concerns. By visiting with you and asking you a series of questions, we can determine whether sleep apnea treatment will improve your sleep. Ready to learn more about how treatment may lead to a more satisfying quality of life? Read further:
Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder that occurs when your throat tissues collapse while you sleep. This happens because your throat muscles relax rather than remaining active. These muscles support your throat tissues. When the muscles relax, so do your soft tissues, resulting in the obstruction of your airways (which is why you may hear this disorder referred to as obstructive sleep apnea or OSA). Your brain will quickly recognize the lack of oxygen, urging your body to wake up and breathe. You will quickly wake, making a choking or gasping sound as you take in air, and then immediately fall asleep. This happens so quickly that most patients have no recollection of the event in the morning.
If we diagnose you with sleep apnea, you will need sleep apnea treatment to provide you with immediate sleep improvement, while preventing long-term health problems. Ignoring sleep apnea may result in an increased chance of developing high blood pressure, heart health issues, and other concerns. Fortunately, treatment is comfortable and noninvasive. You will wear an oral device similar to a mouth guard that will realign your jaw and/or shift your tongue into a better position to promote open airways while you sleep.
